Today I watched the quaterbacks in their individual workouts. The quarterbacks consist of: Kevin Williams, Rashad Morris, and Keon King. The quaterbacks were working on their option pitches to the left and right. They are slowly but surely starting to get it, but the problem was they were trying to move too quick instead of going through the mechanics. The object of the pitch is to to get the ball to the recievers chest level no lower or higher. The coaches try to stress this fact, but i can tell the players get frustrated when they get it wrong. I would say the order of the qb's who did it the best was Kevin, Keon, then Rashad. After that the quarterbacks worked on screen passes where you have to get the ball out quick. The reason why is the offensive lineman is going to let the defensive end go, and he will be coming for the qb whose job is to get the ball out quick over the defensive ends head. Kevin did pretty good at getting the ball out, but overthrew the ball at times. Next Rashad's problem was he consistently waited to long to get the ball out taking about a 5 or 6 step drops when a 3 or 4 step drop is what is needed he would have been sacked about the time he actually got rid of the ball.
In all a quarterback is a position of leadership where the quarterback is confident in everything he does, and should have the teams respect. One key i would say is he must have command and control of the huddle at all times. Right now no true leader has emerged, but i believe Kevin will as long as he stays focused and understand if he makes a mistake he has to move on and not get frustrated. All he has to do is stay focused trust that he has what it takes to make every throw, and trust his recievers because he has playmakers' all around him. But this still is an open job will see who takes the reigns and lead us this season, one thing i know is we will be SUCCESSFUL!!!!
