Coaches Spotlight : Coach Thomas
Coach Thomas is the defensive backs coach in his fifth day of his coaching career. He played football for Jacksonville state last year. He also graduated from Jean Ribault high school in 2008 where he also played football. He also can relate to the players very well and loves how our defensive backs are always working hard and have good work ethics. I spent most of the practice basically checking out Coach Thomas and the dbs and some of my observations are as follows. One player that really stood out to me was Cornerback Kovarus Williams and his raw athletic ability really just baffled me he could be a real show stopper when the season starts if he puts all the peices together. Moreover the thing that stands out about Coach Thomas is he's a teacher on the field and he simplifies everything and also brings up game time situations during practice to help our players become more game ready. Also if u make a mistake he goes right up to you and lets you know what you can do better the next time you get into that situation. He also gave very good tips in practice for example one key that can help you become a better db is to back pedal and then when the ball comes out snap your head around and go get the ball or put yo head down and drive through the reciever. He also taught the players better ways to read widerecievers body language. To me he is a players coach every defensive back I ask only have rave reviews about the coach one quote from cornerback Kovarus Williams is "its nice to have a coach who actually played the game and is fresh out of college. The most underated thing i feel that he does is not only work with the defensive backs but also helps out with all facets of the defense i dont want to speak to early but i see defensive coordinator in his future. Last but not least he preaches that all of his defensive backs play physical which if they do that will make each player that much better.
