STAND UP AND SHAKE IT OFF!!!

Its a new year out with the old in with the new. So far this season has been pretty challenging ,but it is up to the team to turn around. Fans, coaches, parents, friends, and managers can't want it for you until you want it for yourself you will never be successful. Its time to standup and play fight and go as hard as you can for however long you are on the court. Shake off the old you and when practice comes tuesday this team needs to be refreshed and brand new from the bench to the starters. Another thing is its time for the right people to be in the game at the right time everybody need to contribute in some way dont play like sissys and have the front of that jersey mean something averaging 7 points a quarter is unacceptable if everyone plays inside their game and hustle dat is the key to a winning formula. There were some highs at the beginning of the season but now we are at our low of lows so when we get out of this it will make the team better as a whole. If this team will be successful its time out for the excuses you chose are you with us or against us. So its time to start the real and true journey to march 3rd and lets compete in every game but it all starts in practice.. Yes practice!!! It starts with the coaches and ends with the players. Now lets do it 2012 the year of new begginings for the Ribault Trojans and remember stand up and shake off the old season because a new you and a new team is beiing birth out in 2012.

How sweet the taste of victory is!!!

What a game the debut for highschool basketball for alot of players in the game of all games "RIBAULT VS RAINES". A great start and finish to the game led by Coach Harold and company we pressed those vikings all game and scored easy baskets. But in the middle quarters we were a little lazy but were pulled thru in the end by the big 3 players of the game Point guard/Shooting guard Breon Morris, Point guard khaliel "stump" Greene, and Christian Capers. With clutch 3s and working the ball inside. On the other side there were too many missed free throwns and ill advised turnovers and shots taken. Everyone needs to make sure they play inside their game, but on a positive note this game was a total team effort. The play that i believe changed the momentum of the game in our favor is when Stump crossed over a Raines defender and finished it off with a no look pass to Breon Morris for a 3 pointer. The co-mvps of the game are: Khaliel Greene who ran the offense smooth, had some key dribble drives, and hustled all game. The other mvp is Christian Capers who was especially great in the 2nd half working the post with a variation of post moves scoring in key situations and grabbed rebounds constantly all game. There were also some players who gave the team good energy like in the 1st quarter Shooting guard Jante Boston had quick hands and got a couple of steals and knocked down constant layups; colton harris had some good plays on defense and knocking down a layup or 2. In all it was a complete team victory that was made closer by some interesting shot selections and some lazy defense but when it came to clutch time like always the Trojans were primed to perform. Which ended in an astounding victory 49-44 to set the tone for the triple header sweep of Ribault over Raines.

nice win to end year

Not the year we wanted but we won convincingly and dominated in all phases of the game the FINAL SCORE: RIBAULT 42- ENGLEWOOD 0 the running/full backs stole the show running back Daryl Campbell had 3 touchdowns 2 which were on the ground and 1 via the screen play. Fullback Terrance Thomas also had 2 touchdowns both on the ground. And 1 touchdown by wr Joshua Anderson. Our defense just showed out forcing 2 safeties, 2 force fumbles my 2 favorite plays were when LB Milton Johnson drilled the Rb and the hit could be heard all over Alvin White stadium and the other one was when their QB dropped back to pass and DE Carlton Yokley came after him like a man with a vengence and gave him a knockout blow that seemingly lasted for like forever. But I have to give it to the team for coming out at the start of the game all the way until the clock struck all zeroes delivering repetitive knockout blows.

close but no cigar

This game was a very hard fought game even though we didn't come out on the side I would have liked I commend our players for fighting for 4 quarters. On offense our key performers were Rashard Youmans who threw a td pass to Don sapp he also did a very good job avoiding the sack and still keeping his eyes down field and completing the pass, I'm telling you watch out for this kid because he has a potential to be great. Kevin Williams also did good throwing a td pass to Lakhalon Holland made a great catch and broke a tackle to score then he subsequently threw a int followed by a fumble on consecutive drives which kind of stopped our momentum. Running back Darryl Campbell also scored a td with wr Larry Wingfield getting a great seal block. The defense played pretty good but what hurt them is the trojans were tied 14 a piece it was 4th and 19 and they gave up a td run, after a great return by brandon Williams Rashard Yomans and the offense took us down the field and WR Don Sapp scored a TD, now the score is 20-21 and coach Flynn cause a time out and does something I 1000 % agree with goes for 2 and it was the perfect play call slant to Sapp but WR Don Sapp dropped the ball and the game was over final Ribault 20 Ed White 21. So a great play call had people questioning the great gutsy call by coach Flynn. And if you don't like the call oh well and that's why you're not the coach.

Its time to check your attitudes at the door and play trojan football

As I look back on the game I can't point a finger at a single unit we lost as a team, what I feel we lack is to be happy for the team when something good happens and not only when they do something good. I believe for us to get back to becoming the name that's on the front of our jersey (Ribault) the players will have to be more selfless and be more for the team that's the only way I see us succeeding. And I feel if you can't do that then you don't deserve to be a Trojan, because as I recall trojans are a team that sticks together and after a loss reflects on what they could have done better and on Monday come out to practice ON TIME!!!!!! Ready to get better. Its the little things that can decide between winning and losing. So I believe if we can do that we can achieve all our goals. But I believe this week will be the start of everyone seeing who the real trojans are and also no bad attitudes as I hope we can weed out all the bad attitudes this week and get back to playing trojan football.

If you want it then you have to go get it

This weeks game will be a big test for our football team. The main thing that I think we have to do is practice with a high level of intensity and we have to stay focused and we can't just do this for just this week we have to continue this for the rest of the season and from this day forward it will show us who really wants to help this team try to reach our goal of state champs. Because looking back at our previous game I don't think a lot of people were focused as much as they should have been and I am kinda glad of the end result even though I would have liked to win, But I believe that that game was a wake up call and I saw in last week's practice we were very focused, and I believed that it doesen't matter how talented we are nobody's gonna give us anything we have to use our talent and go take what's rightfully ours. Because all the coaches and I know the potential this team has if they can check their egos at the door and listen to what the coaches are telling them because if they can do that I believe that theres not a team in the nation that can beat us not with our talent and coaches working together we can't be stopped and I truly believe that. So I want to challenge every single player from this point on to just listen to what the coaches say without any backtalk, every time you touch the field you should give it your all,and don't be late to practice you will see what me and all the coaches the great potential that this team has but its all up to you.

A minor setback for a major comeback

This game was played very well by our defense but i felt like they eventually got tired from all the time on the field. The defense recorded 2 fumbles on the day and a couple of 4 down stops. The offense started off the first series ok but after a dropped touchdown we never regained our momentum the score was 10-0 at half. From what i seen First coast were not better than ribault they just made more plays than we did. Now its time to regroup during this bye week and go on to the next one against Bolles. The season has just started we are now getting into the meat of our schedule and i believe this is just a minor setback for a major comeback the journey to a state championship HAS NOW OFFICIALLY BEGAN!!

Division standings week 3

Ribault 3-0 w@Paxon 31-17 next @ firstcoast
(2-0)
Bolles 3-0 w vs. Crestview 31-0 next vs. Fleming island(3-0)
Raines 2-1 w vs. Mandarin 44-24 next Vs. Ed White(3-0)
Jackson 2-1 L @ First coast 32-0 next vs. Yulee (1-2)

Against all odds

As I told you in my pregame story we couldn't start looking ahead to First coast and thats what we were doing at first. To start off the game our defense forced a fumble and recovered the fumble and our offense subsequently scored and after that it seemed like some of the players took the pedal off, and as a result we were getting numerous of penalties (some that was wrong calls) but at that point we were up 10-0 when Darren Anderson made what seemed to be a 30 yarder, but it seemed after that things just started falling apart it started with a throwing play by paxon right to DB Dennis Rogers who somehow let the paxon receiver take the ball right out of his hands for a reception, and they subsequently scored on the next play and that gave them the momentum and paxon defense got on the field and forced a 3 and out and blocked the punt for a touchdown and they ended the half on a field goal. Ribault is down 10-17 at half and everyone knew it shouldn't be the score that it was and it seemed like the coaches lit a fire under the players, the one good thing was we got the Ball back after half and Corey Donald returned it for about 45 yards which gave us the momentum back and after that point the o-line started doing their job in blocking someone I saw step up was o-lineman Josh Denson it seemed to me after half he took his game to another level and by him and the o-line doing their job in blocking that gave RB Darryl Campbell the time to take the game over with his 3 rushing touchdown's including a 70 yarder, but I can't just single out the o-line as the only won's blocking the receivers were to, and like a wise one once said "A big run can't happen without the help of effective blcking from your receivers". And with all the help of his blockers he was able to amass 183 yards on 20 carries for 3 td's, QB Kevin williams also did a good job managing the game. But without this defense I don't know where we would be they have saved this team on countless number of times, and were a very important part of us winning the game with timely stops.

Offensive player of the game: RB Darryl Campbell
Defensive player of the game: LB Milton Johnson (who to me was exploding on almost evry play getting a piece of whoever had the ball)
- Last thought of the day: I have to give it up to our coaching staff to make great half time adjustments for our first come behind victory of the year, that's why I still say we have the best coaching staff in the state and our players did a good job of coming out and playing a hell of a second half, because when you're down at halftime playing against all odds and can pull out a win that is what I meant when I said u have to play 4 quarters of football.

Focused on the task at hand

From the Head Coach down to the last player we are all prepared for paxon. People constantly asking if we're ready for First Coast but I like what one of the players said "ask me about First Coast next week I am focused on paxson right now". And that's the attitude I believe that this whole team needs to have going into tomorrow night's game and I believe that they will. The main reason that I believe we need to put them away early is if we start looking ahead to our next game then paxson might sneak up on us and we can't let that happen. So my main goal for us is to stay focus.

My keys to the game: -No turnovers in the redzone (or turnovers period)
-Win the battle of the trenches
-Forcet turnovers and get sacks/put pressure on the oppossing offense

And if we do the things I just said we should dominate paxson in all phases of the game. We'll see if we keep what I like to call a determined mindset going into tomorrow night's game.

Trenches

Today i had the opportunity to spend time with the group of guys who quite frankly have one of the biggest parts on if we win or lose week in and week out. That is the offensive and defensive lines which is where football games are won and loss in the trenches. The offensive line consists of Demetrius MCcswain, Brandon Bowens, Josh Denson, Tony Young, Gregory Stockton, Tawn Henderson, and Donovan Brown. While on the defensive line you have Raynard Felton, Aaoron MCcullah, Shemar Austin, Ralph Tagelle, Carlton Yokley, and Marcus Robinson. Saw alot of tenacity and grit from both lines in drills and inside run working on their assignments and also giving 110% at all times which was a big accomplishment to me if we continue to put out these lines will continue to win the battle of the trenches and lead us to a state championship. The most underrated and surprise player at practice today was Shemar Austin he had a sack and forced an incomplete pass he also has a constant motor and is quick off the blocks he was putting pressure on the offensive line all practice long this is one player that can be darn good as long as he stays on track and continue to listen to the coaches. Through todays practice their was a lot of battling back and forth between the offensive and defensive line but the defensive line won the battle of the trenches today with its constant and all around push to the offensive line and basically getting up the field, and also combined for 5 sacks and numerous tackles and pressures on the quarterback all i can say is great job defensive line it was really point blanc domination. But the good thing is theres always practice tommorrow i will be studying the trenches all week it can really give you a census on how physical this team can be. Starting with the defensive line to the safeties this is a complete defense i believe one of the best in the state very aggressive, technically sound, smart, and very well skilled and fast from top to bottom.

Division standings

Teams Record This week Next week
Ribault 2-0 Terry parker w 21-0 @ paxon
Jackson 2-0 Englewood w 38-0 @ firstcoast Bolles 2-0 Heritage w 28-17 vs.Crestview
Raines 1-1 Lee W 34-14 vs.Mandarin

Trojans crush braves and cruise to 21-0 victory

We justed finished week 2 and our trojans are still undefeated the defense was superb again but unlike last week we held our opponent to 0 yea that's right zero points, and unlike last week we even had a sack by dlineman Raynard Felton, his sack came at a crucial moment in the gane where the braves were driving down the field and that stopped them in their tracks, and later on that drive Khari Howard. But the thing that surprised me was how our offensive line rebounded from last weeks performance but 2 people on the offensive line that stood out to me was Brandon Bowens who had all good snaps and also blocked very well, the other lineman that stood out to me was Tony Young he had a very solid game and didn't allow any sacks. And by our olineman giving Keion time to pass we were able to execute our passes, we had a couple of drops but I know we'll get that fixed this week but even with the drops Keion still had 2 TD passes to WR Derek Jones. Our running back tandem of Darryl Campbell and James Branch was at it again Darryl had a td run and james had some good runs and almost a productive run. Overall it was a well coached and played game. So I want to send a warning out to whoever has to face us be ready for a 4 quarter dog fight because if u not u gone be in for a ride that I guarantee you won't like.

Offensive player of the game: WR Derek jones
Defensive player of the game: safety Khari Howard
Surprise of the day: Darren Anderson making a extra point.

Division Standings

Ribault 1-0 (Won 26-12 against wolfson)Next opponents: vs.Terry Parker
Jackson 1-0 ( Won 22-6 vs. stanton) vs.Englewood
Bolles 1-0 ( Won 55-21 vs. Bayside) @ American Heritage
Raines 1-0 (Lost 16-14 vs. Providence)
@ Lee Generals

Just getting started

What a great solid game from both sides of the ball but lets start with defense. They forced 8 turnovers: 4 interceptions (2 by db Marcus Uzzel, and 2 by Miguel Marquez 1 by Lakhalon Holland). But they weren't the only ones making plays the defense as a unit was basicly lockdown with only one mistake, one thing I loved about the defense is every time someone got the ball basicly the whole defense would come in to help on the tackle and I can already tell this defense isn't goin to be nothing to play with.
Now the offense had a good game to Qb Keion Westmoreland went 6 for 9 135 yds 3 passing tds and 1 rushing one thing I liked about him is that no matter what happened in the game he kept his composure and that's the kind of Quarterback we need, they don't have to have the strongest or most accurate arm but has to know how to make timely decisions which I saw him make. RB Daryl campbell also had a good game with 102 rushing yds on 22 attempts for 4.6 yards per carry, he also had a 80 yard reception for a td. Another rb who had a good game was James Branch who had 60 yards on 3 carries with 20 yards per carry but one mistake he had was his fumble in which every one new he was going to score but I know this running back will rebound and I will predict he's going to score a td Friday. Another rb that did good was Tevin richardson even though a couple of his runs got called back he was running hard. RB Terrance thomas caught a pass from Keion to convert a 2 point conversion.
Special teams: Timothy Robinson had 3 punts for 92 yards and an average of 30 yards per punt. Kos Raynard felton had 3 kickoffs for 92 yards and an average of 43 yards per kick. James Branch also had a good return of 22 yards.
I have to also commend the coaches for calling a good game. I couldn't give it to one player so here's my players of the game:
Offensive players of the game :QB Keion Westmoreland and RB Daryl Campbell
Defensive players of the game: DB Marcus Uzzel DB Miguel Marquez and Safety Khari Howard
Now we got that out the way its time to get ready for Terry Parker.

determined mindset

Practice today seemed very crisp it was like the players took their game to another level and are getting prepared for our 1st game of the season. The practice was mainly focusing on plays, the quarterbacks were working on timing with receivers and backs. The defense was building on their performance from the kickoff classic. Something that I saw that I liked was that the quarterback stayed after practice to work with his receivers and punter Tim Robinson was working on his punts. I like how some of the players are taking the initiative to get some extra work in.

Quote of the day: Coach Flynn "we have the right personnel to compete with anyone in the state."

Surprise player of the day : d-line/o-lineman Tawn Henderson he showed that he has the potential to become a good pulling guard, we'll see if he brings that intensity the rest of this week.

Growing pains

It was a very interesting day. With the bus breaking down countless number of times turning the trip from a 6 hour trip into an 8 and a half trip getting to the stadium its like we were against all odds . So when push comes to shove we just didn't come out on top but this was really a game to feel ourselves out and see what we have. SO starting with the offense the player who really impressed is widereciever Larry Wingfield he is a heck of an athlete and is quick as lightning he also has a very good step off the line and had 2 catches for 55 yards hes very athletic and has hands of velcro you rarely see him drop a pass even in practice. NOt only does he catch but he blocks .when it is all said and done i believe he will be our breakout player of the year and a top 5 reciever. We gave up 2 total sacks on the night and have to clean up some of the mental mistakes like 4 penalties for a total of 30 yards. Also in the receiving corp you had Raynard Felton with 3 catches for 25 yards one of his catches he climb the ladder jumped up and caught the ball at the highest point a very athletic play on his part. In other news Darryl Campbell had a catch for 6 yards, Tevin Richardson 1 catch for 8 yards. I also saw some flashes of a really good reciever from Widereciever Kenneth Cowan who also had 1 catch for 8 yards. Our runningbacks were also pretty constisent their stats are as follows Darryl Campbell 8 rushes for 12 yards. THE Quarterbacks combined for 9 for 21 with 7 interceptions for 116 yards. What i would call an ok performance they just made a couple of mental mistakes that i know will be corrected in due time. OUr defense played consistent in giving the team a chance to win and i was also very impressed with the defensive line and their control of the trenches and in getting up field to pressure the quarterback this unit was the best offensive or defensive unit of the game. There was also 3 sacks on the night which included Quincy Glover, Carlton Williams who also nearly had a pic ,And Aaron MCcullah. We also have to get better at special teams we were inconsistent i liked the blocked kicks but then we gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown i know that will be fixed with practice though.

GAME SUMMARY:
This was a very capable win iall ELY really did was run their QB and there recievers had butterfingers couldn't catch a cold dropped everything that came there way their defense was straight but if we were in a rhythm we would've whooped them bad. BUT HEY IT IS WHAT IT IS lets move on regroup and show the wolfpack what True trojans are all about . Its just preseason state championship here we come. DO YOU BELIEVE ?
Offensive player of the game: Larry Wingfield
defensive player of the game : Carlton Williams

Its the first test of the season lick your chops guess what less than 24 hours from GAMETIME!!! Lets go offense, defense, and special teams lets put it together and show Miami what duval is all about.

I have one key player for pompano Beach and he is widereciever Avery Johnson who is also the younger brother of former Lsu and current Arizona Cardinals Cornerback Patrick Peterson. He is fast and really good but is someone that i think our defense can contain.

Keys to the game :
dominate the line of scrimmage
run the ball and stop the run
limit the mental mistakes
offensive consistency
play smart

players to watch :
Kevin Williams
Kovarus Williams
Raynard Felton
Derek Jones
Josh Anderson
Darryl Campbell
These are players with alot of speed and talent i really expect big things from all of these players and have a high ceiling now lets start the journey to this state championship.

In all i expect is a very clean and competitive game where the Ribault Trojans will start their quest to a state championship.

Coaches Spotlight : Coach Thomas

Coach Thomas is the defensive backs coach in his fifth day of his coaching career. He played football for Jacksonville state last year. He also graduated from Jean Ribault high school in 2008 where he also played football. He also can relate to the players very well and loves how our defensive backs are always working hard and have good work ethics. I spent most of the practice basically checking out Coach Thomas and the dbs and some of my observations are as follows. One player that really stood out to me was Cornerback Kovarus Williams and his raw athletic ability really just baffled me he could be a real show stopper when the season starts if he puts all the peices together. Moreover the thing that stands out about Coach Thomas is he's a teacher on the field and he simplifies everything and also brings up game time situations during practice to help our players become more game ready. Also if u make a mistake he goes right up to you and lets you know what you can do better the next time you get into that situation. He also gave very good tips in practice for example one key that can help you become a better db is to back pedal and then when the ball comes out snap your head around and go get the ball or put yo head down and drive through the reciever. He also taught the players better ways to read widerecievers body language. To me he is a players coach every defensive back I ask only have rave reviews about the coach one quote from cornerback Kovarus Williams is "its nice to have a coach who actually played the game and is fresh out of college. The most underated thing i feel that he does is not only work with the defensive backs but also helps out with all facets of the defense i dont want to speak to early but i see defensive coordinator in his future. Last but not least he preaches that all of his defensive backs play physical which if they do that will make each player that much better.

Game Mode _

Today was little cooler than yesterday and a better practice than yesterday and I think Coach Flynn did a good job motivating the players before practice started.

On 7 on 7- Kevin looked very good again in day 2 and hit (WR) Tony Manning in the endzone over a defenders head perfectly placed to the receiver, a good catch by up and coming receiver larry, Josh Anderson made a great catch on Miguel Marquez, Kevin threw td pass to Tony Manning, td catch by Mykel who made a few defenders miss.

Suprise of the day: A new receiver name larry who is a transfer from raines didn't drop a ball in practice and has some speed he really showed the ability to help the to catch the ball consistently and add to our depth at receiver.

Review: overall today the defense looked better today by applying countless pressure on the QB and getting multiple sacks. But the offense showed progress and their was 1 phase of the offense that struggled and if I don't see progress by tomorrow I will address it and tell you what I think should be done to fix it.

The start of......? Who knows its all up to the players

It was a pretty humid practice today and there were alot of players working hard as they are getting ready for the season opener in two weeks at Wolfson high schoool september 6 at 7:30. All of the coaches were paying alot of attention to detail and are making sure every player is in the right position to succeed. One player that stood out today is quarterback Kevin Williams he looked very good today hitting receivers in stride all day. In a full team scrimmage he threw a td pass to Raynard Felton Tight end / defensive end a team captain who the coaches are expecting big things from this year. He also had a touchdown pass to running back Darryl Campbell who used his agility and countless number of spin moves to score on a well disiplined defense. This whole team is coming together and will be a cohesive unit before you know it.

7-on-7 practice

1st it was defensive backs vs wide receivers:
-receiver Don Sapp vs. DB Marcus Parker-Uzzell- it was good defense by Parker but Sapp brought it in.

-receiver Joshua Anderson vs. LB Budda- TD catch by Josh, Budda slipped.
-receiver Corey vs. DB Lakhalon- Corey slipped.
-receiver Kenneth Cowan vs. Tevin Richardson- okay defense but Kenneth caught the ball.
-receiver Raynard Felton vs.DB Terreke Blackshear- good defense but Ray caught it.
-receiver Mykel Thomas vs. Josue Edmond good defense but Mykel caught it.
-receiver Daryl Campbell vs. DB Kovarius Williams quarter back threw ball out of bounds.
-receiver Raynard Felton vs. LB Willie Mcchullah- got beat off the snap of the ball.
-receiver Timothy Robinson vs. LB Terrance Thomas- terrance good defense but throw was still a little high for tim and he almost brought it in.
-receiver Joshua Anderson vs. LB Alan Hamilton- Josh went right up the sideline on a fly for a td catch and alan just couldn't keep up. -receiver Raynard Felton vs. Miguel Marquez- good agressiveness and ray just missed the ball. -receiver Don Sapp vs. Kenneth- sapp did kenneth but dropped easy catch. 7-on-7 (Kevin Williams) went 12 for 21 and about 133 yds (57% completion percentage) with a TD pass to lakhalon and 2 int's. (Rashard) went 6 for 12 and about 68 yds (50 % completion percentage) and a td pass to raynard. Key plays from 7-on-7 1. Interception by Kovarius williams. 2. Terrance with a nice pass deflection 3. TD catch by raynard 4. TD catch by lakhalon holland 5. Miguel with a deflection on what would have been a td. 6. Ball tipped numerous of times and don came up with pick summary: i think the defense barely won that practice but both sides showed good execution. - randy moss

preview

In the near future we will have a video called the spring wrap up show we will have interviews with the playmakers of the spring game and from spring overall and hopefully a coach. -randy moss

Friday, May 27, 2011

I want to commend Raynard Felton (TE) for having a good offenssive game making 3 total catches two one-handed catches allowing drives to continue and one catch over the middle. He's a tough middle of the field threat. So this season we will have a complete receiving core and defense. GO TROJANS

overview

Our offense looked very smooth with all 3 quarterbacks but to me (Kevin williams) really stood out with his timely throws and ability to throw off the run with precision and take off when it looked like it was going to be a sack, but above everything he did i loved the way he had command of the huddle.

Suprise of the day: Kovaris Williams ( kevin's twin) was all over the field he had a pick 6, almost pick, and a nasty hit to dislodge ball from receiver, to me he had the biggest day on defense.

1 thing to improve: i think that we wasn't physical enough the main thing we have to do is win the battle in the trenches.

But overall it was a good performance and i have to commend all our coaches for getting our players ready, but especially coaches: Flynn (hc), Ben(dc), and sammy(qb coach) for making the right play calls.

*and my final thought: for any 1 who has to play us u better be prepared for a battle because we will be giving you a 48 minute scrappy dog fight, and when we play our game right theres not a team in the state who can touch us.

- thanks signed randy moss

The best is yet to come!! First win 20-12

For the game Kevin went 7 for 13 (54% completion percentage) with a td pass to Derek Jones, a sack, and a couple of drive saving runs.

(Keon) went 2 for 3 (67% completion percentage) with a td pass to Tim Robinson.

(Rashard) went 2 for 2.

Turnovers:

  1. Terrance Thomas fumbled the ball

  2. Kovaris Williams 50 yd interception returned for touchdown

  3. Trojans recovered fumble

  4. David James with interception
Summary:

We played a very complete game tonight on all emphasis of the game. I saw a good team starting to evolve right in front of my eyes. The trojans did most of the things that i thought was the key for us to win the game: our defense was aggressive and forced turnovers, we played smart, and most of all we stayed inside the gameplan throughout the game.

Quote of the day: "You can't win a STATE championship in the spring, but you can build one in the spring". -Coach Flynn

Offensive player of the game: Kevin Williams(QB) he put together an all around great game over the past two years I have watched this young man he is really starting to change for the better. The things he did to have a complete game were timely passing, making the right decisions moving the huddle, not getting rattled, and commanding the huddle. The key for him is to just keep improving everyday and knowing he's not going to be perfect.

Defensive player of the game: Kovarus Williams (Safety) what a player he's an all around player. He had an all around good game returning his first interception to the house for about 50 yds. Also had a monstorous hit when Providence threw a swing pass were Kovarus was waiting for it thrust hisself right through the running back leaving him flat on the ground like a pancake, then the whole crowd errupted in glee.

Play of the day: It was our second drive of the game Providence had just scored we were inside our own 25 yd line it was 3rd down Kevin drops back for the pass and finds Derek Jones on a fade route and throws a perfect ball were only his reciever can catch it and he does in the back right hand side of the end zone for a touchdown!!! Don't worry this connection will be happening ALL year.

I also loved how Tim Robinson started and finished playing the game well today on our first drive he had a great punt for about 50yds and ended theday with a touchdown from Keion Westmoreland for about 35 yds the pass led him into the endzone were he got behind the defender and dove in the end zone holding on to the football for a T.D.

I also have to commend the defense for shutting out Providence for the second half of the game. The defense played an overall good game and the coaches made good second half adjustments. The good thing is Providence scored half of its points on a trick play, but the key to a great defense is to bend but not break which is what we did today. The one thing we have to work on is wrapping up our tackles but is something that i am sure we can fix, and it seems like that any time in the game that we needed a turnover in the game we got one.

We have time to fix any mistakes and need to get more familiar with the playbook. But that comes with the territory hey we are just getting better and better each day. The one thing that i think we need to work on is being more physical which will happen once we start hitting weights.Just know you ain't seen nothing yet the BEST IS YET TO COME!!

day 17

It was a good practice today with alot of offense. But the defense did good on tackling and had two interceptions on the day the first interception was by Josue Edmond who intercepted the ball in the end zone had a really solid practice today. The second one was by Terreke Blackshear in the redzone pass was thrown right to him. The play of the day was a one handed touchdown catch by Timothy Robinson it was a spectactular catch over his head extending his arm all the way out and snagging the ball out of the air,it was a perfectly thrown ball leading the reciever up the sideline.Miguel Marquez just let the reciever get behind him,but it happens to the best of us. In my opinion this kid is an up and coming(db). In todays practice Derek Jones went through the high and lows. First in 7on7 he started off with a great one handed catch in the right front corner of the end zone,he would continue to have a very solid practice. Unfortunately to end practice he dropped a perfectly thrown pass for about 35 yards up the right seam for a touchdown in the endzone he bobbled the catch nearly caught it. Summary: My offensive line man of the day is Corey Willaims i like how he got to the second level and did really good at showing finesse and on his blocking assignments. Kevin Williams(qb) continues to improve i really liked what i saw from him improving everyday and just being a very well versed player and understanding what it takes to be a qb and figuring hes not going to be perfect but can still improve each and every day. I also have awarded the runningbacks as the most productive position of the day. Were very precise on runs having good vision getting up the field and running with speed and power we can credit the holes to the o-line what a really good team that is involving right in front of my face this Providence game thursday should be really intriguing.

day 16

Today was a good practice.Kevin Williams went 5for10 [50%] on the day .There were two touchdown passes on the day. The first one went to our tight end Raynard Felton, and the second one to Timothy Robinson up the left seam of the sideline on a perfectly thrown pass. Really good execution of blocking schemes by the offensive line especially Demetrius Mcswain.I also loved to see the defense gang tackling but the real key for our defense is for everyone to take care of their assignment. As long as we make open field tackles we will be a great defense. Really excited for the spring game this thursday @7 home against providence hope i see u their to come support the TROJANS!!

day 11 spring practice

Today was a very eventful day I will start with a view of my top things of the day. Quote of the day- "I will be the #1 cb in the state in 2013"-William Oliver
Play of the day- Kevin Willians throws a pass in the end zone over Derek Jones left shoulder who makes a GREAT one-handed diving catch for a td.
Blooper of the day- Anthony dwayne was going for a pass in a wr drill when the pass bounced off his chest when he was tried to catch the ball.
Hit of the day- Tariq ran straight through carlton "buddah" williams driving him into the ground. I could hear the hit sitting on the bench.
Rave of the day- This goes to kevin Williams I'm expexting big things from this young man in the upcoming season. He has all the mechanics to lead this team I have high hopes for this kid don't be surprised when he plays great he's made the most progress this spring to me. With this defense if he plays like I know he can he WILL be lead us to a state championship.

sibling rivalry

It all started on Friday when it looked like kovarus[safety] was scared to hit [qb] his brother kevin. So fastforward to today the team was doing a little bit of 7on7 when on a fake [rb]run kevin ran on a rollout and ran over kovarus who missed the openfield tackle. Quote from kovarus"my job was to force kevin inside" but the older brother won round one. Later on in the the day the team was practicing 11on11 when kovarus comes in on an outside blitz to deliver a big hit for a sack which I call a little pay back. We will see what tommorow will bring in this not so friendly sibling battle.

Inside the Quaterbacks

Today I watched the quaterbacks in their individual workouts. The quarterbacks consist of: Kevin Williams, Rashad Morris, and Keon King. The quaterbacks were working on their option pitches to the left and right. They are slowly but surely starting to get it, but the problem was they were trying to move too quick instead of going through the mechanics. The object of the pitch is to to get the ball to the recievers chest level no lower or higher. The coaches try to stress this fact, but i can tell the players get frustrated when they get it wrong. I would say the order of the qb's who did it the best was Kevin, Keon, then Rashad. After that the quarterbacks worked on screen passes where you have to get the ball out quick. The reason why is the offensive lineman is going to let the defensive end go, and he will be coming for the qb whose job is to get the ball out quick over the defensive ends head. Kevin did pretty good at getting the ball out, but overthrew the ball at times. Next Rashad's problem was he consistently waited to long to get the ball out taking about a 5 or 6 step drops when a 3 or 4 step drop is what is needed he would have been sacked about the time he actually got rid of the ball.

In all a quarterback is a position of leadership where the quarterback is confident in everything he does, and should have the teams respect. One key i would say is he must have command and control of the huddle at all times. Right now no true leader has emerged, but i believe Kevin will as long as he stays focused and understand if he makes a mistake he has to move on and not get frustrated. All he has to do is stay focused trust that he has what it takes to make every throw, and trust his recievers because he has playmakers' all around him. But this still is an open job will see who takes the reigns and lead us this season, one thing i know is we will be SUCCESSFUL!!!!

day 6

The defense had a really good practice today i can only rave about them. But to start with the offense they had an 80yard rushing touchdown along the right sideline he exploded up the sideline basically untouched. Their was also a touchdown by Derek Jones on a go route Will Oliver on the coverage. The defense played fast and hit hard, but alot of development is still going on for offense and defense. My defensive player of the day goes to Corey(db), and my offensive player of the day goes to Darell Cambell (rb).

key plays:

  1. James jukes Lakhalond Holland on an inside run for about 8 yds.

  2. Corey rocks Tevin (rb) on a screen pass where corey caught him in the backfield

  3. Aaoron Mccullah rushes up the middle of the o-line and runs right through tevin and stuffs the run in the backfield for a loss for the second big hit on the day.

  4. 80 yd run by Darrel Cambell for a touchdown

  5. Touchdown catch by Derek Jones

The quarterbacks had an average practice today with some really good throws and a couple of interceptions. They are still learning the playbook and how to progress through their reads. Don't worry we will be good at qb because we have athletes they just have to get this playbook down pack. Coming up inside the quarterbacks....

day 5 spring practice

wide receivers started off slow.
They did 7- on- 7 Kevin Williams (qb)- went 9 for 13 (70% completion percentage) a sack 1 int scrambled 4 times (all for positive yardage) and threw 1 td pass to raynard Felton. Rashard (qb)- went 5 for 7 (71% completion percentage) 2 td's .(rb)Daryl Campbell had a td run and Raynard Felton gave him a great block.
To close out practice they had Daren Anderson (dj) to practice extra points and he had to make 4 in a row which he did im predicting he will make a game winner this year( while he was kicking he had his teammates rooting him on.) overall kevin stood out to me to day in practice. -randy moss

day 4 spring practice

it was a calm practice mainly working on drills

Thursday, May 5, 2011

preview to day4

Today will be interesting practicing with helmets and pads will be some hitting going on today practice will be very intriguing. Today i can get a real consensus where the football team is really at today. Ready for a very good practice.

day 3 spring practice

Once again the defense is on top but they got to less balls than yesterday. Today keon Recieved more quaterback reps than kevin and keon earned that by having a good practice. We saw a variety of different recievers on the day which was good to see but the guys who had the most catches and was targeted the most were Raynard Felton and Derek Jones who as usual had very consistent and good practices wer they had about two touchdowns a piece. The interceptions on the day were by Tereke Blackshear, Delawn Rodgers, and William Oliver. My underated widerecievers of the day are Tim Robinson and Tony Manning. Also, i give the best defensive practice to Don Sapp. So im expecting a fast defense this year and only time will tell about the offense because it always takes a little more time for the offense to grasp and be able to react more quickly so patience is the key this will be a very underrated team this year just watch and see

coaches corner: coach griffin

High school:

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Where he graduated from Will Rodgers high school. The sport that he treasured was basketball but was really good at football. When he was in high school he idolized Jason Kidd, Chris Webber (both point guards), and the fab five(a Michigan basketball team which is considered the best recruiting class ever consisted of Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson). The positions he played were running back and linebacker in football which he player for 14 years, point guard in basketball 18 years, centerfield, baseball and track. High school awards that he got were all-district, conference, and state in class 3a a skillful player in high school. In football he was a very physical player and was not afraid of contact, but he was also a very attentive player that did what the coaches asked in my opinion he was every coaches dream player. When he was in high school the way he balanced school and sports was that he had a mom that would quite frankly say “if you don’t keep your grades up you are not playing sports.”

College

The school he wanted to go to was Florida State, but ended up going to Oklahoma State on a full ride scholarship. When he was there the he played against some current NFL players the best defensive player was line backer Zach Thomas and the best offensive player was quarterback Drew Brees. He also played with cornerback R.W. Mcquarters who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers. Mr. Griffin says “The reason I didn’t go to the national football league is I didn’t work hard enough.” Another reason why is in high school football was fun, but when he got to college it became a job.

Coaching:

The sports that he started to coach were basketball and baseball in college and football in 2005. The last time he coached basketball in North Carolina during 2001.He now coaches the offensive-line in football and is the head girls weightlifting coach. The # 1 reason why he wanted to get into coaching was he we wanted to do as his coaches did and help kids stay out of trouble. There are two coaches who have had the biggest impact on his life the first one was his high school coach Mahlum who helped him realize that he could go to college regardless of sports and helped him turn into a man. The other one was ribaults own Coach Flynn because he has the players best interest at heart and he also got most of his coaching personality from coach Flynn who helped groom him as a coach, and he is also excited about working for a great coach in coach Flynn who he admires and respects. In coach griffin’s point of view he is more of a players’ coach than anything the reason why is he empathizes with the players and he understands were their coming from because he used to play. The coach in the NFL that he patents his coaching after is Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers, because he is straight forward, tough, and has his players’ best interest at heart. In his opinion coaching is not all about winning, but is really about turning boys into men. The one thing that he really loves doing above all is helping his players see how important education is above all. The impact that he really tries to have is be a father figure and care about the kids in all their aspects of life.

JEAN RIBAULT’S FOOTBALL TEAM

The difference from when he played football and now is the kids are faster, stronger, and bigger there also is more networking and the kids can show there selves off to more colleges. Two kids that remind him of when he played in high school are Lakhalond Holland because of his build, and Terrence Thomas because he is not afraid of contact and is very resilient.

Lastly he believes Ribault athletics will be a big part of turning this school around. The expectations for the upcoming football team is for us to be a hard playing football team which all starts now in the offseason and we have a lot of talented players returning. HEY I SAY RIBAULTS FIRST STATE TITLE TOGETHER I BELIEVE WE CAN DO IT. DO YOU?

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

day 2 spring practice

The defense was on top today just about every pass was batted down or intercepted. Their were 3 interceptions on the day. But the offense did have some big plays which were mostly on the 2nd and 3rd string defense. But the offense will have its days as well as the defense, so will see what tommorow will bring.

Key plays of the day :

  1. Marcus uzzel stops swing pass in the back field for negative yards passed behind reciever.

  2. kevin throws interception to terrance thomas.

  3. kevin throws 2nd pick to david james

  4. touchdown to derek jones from kevin on crossing route.

  5. keon comes in and is picked off by don sapp after pass was tipped up by quincy glover

  6. Raynard touchdown on crossing pateern josue edmond on the coverage.

  7. Really good interception by kovarus coming out of nowhere jumping the route pass by rashad

Summary:
Pretty good showing by the qb's kevin williams in the lead from my point of view today as i said before defense batted down or picked just about every pass good practice from raynard felton and derek jones which was only helmets until tommorow.....
